February 15, 2008 - Snake River High School in Blackfoot, ID
16 year-old Curtis Kofoed took a handgun to school. Nearly 8 hours later, he killed himself. Koefed has depression problems in the past and sought both therapy and medication for it.


February 13, 2008 – Norther Illinois University in Dekalb, IL
Police say 27 year-old Steven Kazmierczakt stopped taking his medication recently and had become
erratic before he killed five people and committed suicide.


January 23, 2008 – Lake City High School in Coeur d'Alene, ID
Brian Gilmore was arrested in the high school parking lot with 3 stolen high powered rifles and ammo. His mother stated "The medicine “drastically” changed the teenager’s behavior, and the doctor recently switched him to Prozac.


January 8, 2008 – Spring Hill High School in Columbia, TN
15 year-old student brings semi-automatic gun to school. In addition to the gun, the student was carrying several pills in his backpack, some of which were the anti-depressant Zoloft.


November 7, 2007 – Robert E. Lee High School in Tyler, TX
17 year-old Felicia McMillan stabbed a male student and also injured the principle while on Medication for Depression.


November 7, 2007 – Jokela school shooting in Jokela, Finland
Student Pekka-Eric Auvinen opened fire at the school killing 9 including himself. He was in possession of CIPRALEX, ZOLOFT, LUVOX and PROZAC.


October 10, 2007 – Success Tech High School in Cleveland, OH
Student Asa Coon wounded at least 4 people with two guns. He had been on TRAZADONE.


April 16, 2007 – Virginia Tech Massacre in Blacksburg, VA
Student Seung-Hui Cho killed 32 people and wounded many more before committing suicide. Officials said prescription medications related to the treatment of psychological problems had been found among Cho’s effects.


December 5, 2006 – Jennings County High School in Indiana
16 year old attempted murder by slitting a classmates throat. Teen missed doses of his Anti-Depressent before the knife attack.


October 10, 2006 – Burke High School in Charleston, SC
Student Tyrell Glover brought a life like air pistol to school intending to hold hostages before being killed by the police. He was on PROZAC.


September 29, 2006 – Weston High School in Cazenovia, WI
Eric Hainstock, a student at the school, killed one person. One of the items brought up in court was his ADHD diagnosis. It was never revealed but he was thought to be on RITALIN.


September 27, 2006 – Platte Canyon High School in Bailey, CO
Duane Roger Morrison held 6 hostage and killed one then himself. Antidepressants were found in his vehicle.


September 13, 2006 – Dawson College shooting in Montreal, Canada
Kimveer Gill killed one and injured 19 before killing himself. He was depressed and he was treated at a local health clinic where he likely received anti-depressants.


August 30, 2006 – Orange High School in Orange County, NC
Alvaro Rafael Castillo, a former student, killed his father before entering the school, firing multiple shots and wounding two people. CELEXA and other medications were found in his personal effects.


April 24, 2006 – East Chapel High School in Hillsborough, NC
A high school student with a shotgun took a teacher and a fellow student hostage. At a hearing, teens father testified his son had stopped taking antidepressants and antipsychotic medication without telling his parents. Antidepressant withdrawal can cause mania and psychosis.  Antipsychotic withdrawal can cause "rebound supersensitivity" where the withdrawal psychosis is worse than the original psychosis.


February, 2006 – Memphis City High School in Memphis, TN
Fifteen year-old Ladarious Guy had just recently started taking Zoloft when he punched a teacher in the mouth. His mother says just one day before the incident happened she learned her son voiced concern about his medicine. "One of the teachers called Thursday to let me know he expressed to her that he believes his medication is making him angry and wants to fight."


January 24, 2006 – Cave City School in Cave City, AR
A 15-year-old boy attempted to commit suicide at school. He took 4 different Anti-Depressants and slit his left wrist.


November 8, 2005 – Campbell County High School in Jacksboro, TN
15 year old Kenneth Bartley was asked if he had a firearm. He said “Yes, it’s real. I’ll show you. I never liked you anyways,” and proceeded to open fire killing one and injuring two. Bartley has been abusing drugs for several years, first smoking marijuana and later turning to prescription painkillers such as OXYCONTIN.


March 21, 2005 – Red Lake High School in Red Lake, MN
Student Jeffrey Weise shot and killed his Grandfather and his Grandfather’s girl friend (both police officers). Weise then drove his grandfather's squad car to school where he fatally shot an unarmed security guard before proceeding down a hallway firing at students, killing six and injuring seven others. Witnesses say he smiled and waved as he shot at people. Jeffrey Weise was on PROZAC.


February 9, 2005 – Red Lion Area Senior High School in Red Lion, PA
John Meisky, 16, attacked another student in class, inflicting a small cut on his neck. John was taking two prescription anti-depressant medications.


June, 2004 – Highland high school in Gloucester Township, NJ
A teenager carried loaded handguns to school. His thoughts of violence were linked to over-medication.


February 9, 2004 – Columbia High School in East Greenbush, NY
Jon Romano fired a shotgun several times in the halls of the School and wounded a teacher while on PAXIL.


May 27, 2003 – Pinckney High School in Pinckney, MI
Student on Anti-Depressants charged with "Acts of Terrorism" after threats of school shooting.


January 16, 2002 – Appalachian School of Law in Grundy, VA
Peter Odighizuwa  may have been having withdrawals from his Medication for Depression when he killed 3 including the schools dean, a professor and a student. The doctor who first attended the scene is the same doctor that had treated Odighizuwa for depression and stress in the previous six months.


June 8, 2001 - Ikeda Elementary School in Osaka, Japan
Mamoru Takuma stabbed to death eight students and injured 13 others. Takuma had taken 10 times his normal dosage of an antidepressant.


April 15, 2001 – Wahluke High School in Mattawa, WA
Cory Baadsgaard took a loaded hunting rifle to class and held 23 classmates and a teacher hostage. "He says he can't remember a thing about the incident,” something he directly attributes to the drugs. 21 days before the event, he had been taken off PAXIL and prescribed a high dose of the drug EFFEXOR.
Cory's father said "They always talk about how the kids who do these things are the ones who get picked on by the jocks and stuff, but Cory was a jock. He was on the varsity basketball team, played football and golf, and was very popular in school. “Cory sat in jail for 14 months before finally being released based on expert testimony by psychiatrists that his behavior was an adverse reaction to the drugs he was prescribed.


March 22, 2001 – Granite Hills High School in El Cajon, CA
18-year old Jason Hoffman opened fire on the campus, injuring five people before taking his own life. He was prescribed CELEXA and EFFEXOR.


March 7, 2001 – Bishop Neumann High School in Williamsport, PA
Elizabeth Bush was on PAXIL when she stole a gun, took it to school and shot a classmate in the shoulder.


February 2, 2001 – North Hopewell-Winterstown Elementary School in Winterstown, PA
William Michael Stankewicz was taking four different medications to "stabilize" acute depression and anxiety and was treated for those problems two weeks before going to the elementary school with a machete leaving three adults and 11 children injured.


January 10, 2001 – Hueneme High School in Oxnard, CA
Richard Lopez fires shot before taking another student hostage. He is later shot and killed by police. Lopez was prescribed PROZAC and PAXIL. If you read the labels on both these drugs you will find that among the side effects are suicidal ideas and compulsive violence.


December 6, 1999 – Fort Gibson Middle School in Gibson, OK
Seth Trickey opened fire at middle school injuring five. He was taking two psychotropic drugs.


May 20, 1999 – Heritage High School in Conyers, GA
Thomas Solomon brought a rifle and handgun to school and started shooting randomly about a dozen times before taking out the handgun and putting the barrel in his mouth. He then seemed to “Wake up” and collapsed. He was on RITALIN and a friend of the family said he was being treated for depression.


April 28, 1999 – W.R. Myers High School in Taber, Canada
Todd Cameron Smith, while on DEXADRINE, walked into his school and randomly shot at three students, killing one and injuring another. 


April 20, 1999 – Columbine High School near Littleton, CO
Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold, killed 13, wounded 23 before killing themselves. This was the fourth-deadliest school killing in United States History (the second and third are directly related to anti-depressants as well). Eric Harris was known to been on LUVOX and ZOLOFT. The autopsy results for Dylan Klebold were not disclosed but it is thought he was sharing the medications with Harris. 


April 16, 1999 – Notus Junior-Senior High School in Notus, ID
Shawn Cooper was taking a mix of SSRI antidepressants and RITALIN when he took a shotgun to school and fired two rounds narrowly missing other students.


May 21, 1998 – Thurston High School in Springfield, OR
Kipland Kinkel killed two classmates and injured 25. He had three weapons and had killed his parents (both teachers) the day before. Kipland was on the mind altering drug PROZAC.


April 9, 1998 – Pocatello School in Pocatello, ID
Student Mitchell Gushwa walked into the school with a gun and held several staff and students hostage. He was on ZOLOFT.


March 24, 1998 – Jonesboro Middle School in Jonesboro, TN
Mitchell Johnson and Andrew Golden (ages 13 and 11) tripped the fire alarm at their school and opened fire as the people came out. They killed five and wounded 10 more. Both boys were on RITALIN.


December 1, 1997 – Heath High School in West Paducah, KY
Michael Carneal shot 8 times into a your prayer group killing three and wounding 5. Right afterward he asked to be killed because he couldn't believe what he had done. He was on RITALIN.


October 1, 1997 – Pearl High School in Pearl, MS
Luke Woodham walked into his High School without even attempting to hide his rifle. He killed two and went on to would seven others. He left the High School and was heading to Pearl Middle School but was apprehended before he could get there. Woodham was on the murderous drug PROZAC.


October 12, 1995 – Blackville-Hilda High School in Blackville, SC
Toby Sincino was taking the SSRI ZOLOFT when he walked into school, killed two teachers and then killed himself.


December 17, 1993 – Chelsea High School in Chelsea, MI
Teacher Steven Lieth walked out of a staff meeting and returned with a gun killing one and wounding another.


September 17, 1992 – Piney Point Elementary School in Houston, TX
Calvin Charles Bell was on Anti-Depressants when he entered the school and opened fire. Two officers suffered gun shot injuries.


May 20, 1988 – Hubbard Woods School in Winnetka, IL
30-year-old Laurie Dann walked into a second grade classroom carrying three pistols and began shooting children, killing an eight-year-old boy, Nicholas Corwin, and wounding five others before fleeing. She entered a nearby house where she shot and wounded a 20-year-old man before killing herself.  Blood tests revealed that at the time of the killings, Dann was on the psychiatric drug Anafranil that is shown to cause unexplained hostile and violent behavior.
